The first book by Kana Waiwaiku:
Limited to 50 individually signed & numbered.

Everything Before You Was A Waste Of Life is a unique work created after the passing of 3 friends, two of whom were to suicide.

Kana Waiwaiku began to view the universe radically differently reopening new thought that
developed on the artist’s longstanding fascination with the notion of forlornness, life & death and our place in the world.

Everything Before You Was A Waste Of Life is an asseveration to try and gaze at the world with a sense of miracle and unlock his eyes to the impressions that he had previously missed.

Everything Before You Was A Waste Of Life is a drastic departure stylistically but characteristically the work is an immersive study based on emotional responses.

At the essence, however, is the desire to share a set of common interests, provide wonderment,
display light as a narrative & as an emotional mystery.

Although consistent in terms of their subject matter, these photographs exemplify a wide scope of visual expressions ranging from almost pure abstraction to more
idyllic representations of the natural landscape.

----

Multidisciplinary artist Kana Waiwaiku attended the prestigious Central St Martins College, London. His art practice incorporates photography, film & painting to produce evocative & emotive meditations on themes of a deeply personal nature.
Fascinated with the pursuit of understanding the human experience and with a belief that art can be transmutative & cathartic, he began ambitiously striving to use his work to convey emotional & spiritual undertones.
The resulting work is transformative rather than descriptive, created through introspectively reflecting on lived experiences, emotions & memories.
Favouring an immersive & emotive approach to working, the quiet beauty produced with the work is inseparable from this unique approach.
Patient, & profoundly thoughtful, he is an artist who constantly confronts our mortality & our vulnerabilities through his work.
